About Who we are

Built by engineers who got tired of watching AI budgets evaporate.

Skeptics exists because mid-market leaders were being offered two things: strategy decks from firms that don’t build, and chatbots from agencies that don’t think. Almost no one was offering the thing in between.

The team Who you’ll work with

Engineers who have built the systems. Operators who have signed the checks.

Skeptics is led by people who have spent their careers inside venture-backed technology companies, building production software for customers who depended on it working every day — infrastructure where real money ran through the code, and where a failure was a client’s outage, not a bug ticket. That is the standard we mean by “production-grade,” and it is the standard every system we ship is held to.

We are also operators. Members of our team have founded and run their own companies, which means we read a problem the way an owner does: in terms of margin, cash, time and risk — not features. That combination is the point of Skeptics. The firm pairs the technical judgment to know what current AI can and cannot reliably do with the commercial judgment to know whether it is worth doing at all.

Skeptics is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and works with clients across the Southeast and nationally. Every engagement is led by a senior principal and staffed with senior engineers and specialists as the work requires — never with junior staff substituted after the sale.

Production software background

Careers spent shipping and operating systems at venture-backed technology companies.

Owner’s perspective

Founders and operators who have carried a P&L and made the spend-or-wait call themselves.

Senior on every engagement

The people who scope the work are the people who deliver it.

Beliefs What we actually think

Skeptical of hype.
Serious about returns.

  • 01

AI is a capital allocation question.

The technology is real and improving fast. Whether it belongs in your business, where, and in what order is an investment decision — and should be made like one.

  • 02

The constraint is rarely the model.

It is messy data, brittle systems, unclear process ownership and change capacity. We engineer for those realities instead of pretending they aren’t there.

  • 03

Strategy and engineering must be the same team.

A roadmap written by people who have to build it is a different document than one written by people who will hand it off.

  • 04

    Small, measured, then scaled.

Prove the economics on one process with real numbers before spending on ten. Compounding comes from discipline, not ambition.

  • 05

    Honesty is the product.

Our value depends on telling you when something won’t pay back. A consultancy that can’t say no is a vendor.

Charlotte Where we are

Rooted in the Southeast. Working nationally.

Charlotte sits at the center of a dense mid-market economy — banking and insurance, manufacturing and distribution, healthcare systems, construction and a growing base of PE-backed operating companies. We work in person across the Carolinas and the Southeast, and remotely with clients across the United States.
